Guide for Authors

Submission Guidelines

Instructions for Authors

We appreciate your interest in submitting your manuscript to the Journal of Economic Essays: An Islamic Approach (JEE) (Jostārhā-ye Eghtesādi bā Ruykard-e Eslāmi). Prior to submission, authors are strongly encouraged to thoroughly review the journal’s author guidelines. Adherence to these guidelines ensures alignment with the journal’s scope and facilitates an efficient review process. Manuscripts that do not comply with submission requirements will not proceed to peer review.

The Journal of Economic Essays: An Islamic Approach (JEE), a scholarly publication of the Research Institute of Hawzah and University (Pazhuheshgāh-e Hāwzeh wa Dāneshgāh, RIHU), disseminates high-quality theoretical and applied research in various fields of economics, with a particular emphasis on Islamic economics.

Submission Requirements

  • Manuscripts must represent original research articles and must not have been previously published or submitted elsewhere (including journals, conferences, or books).
  • Each submission undergoes rigorous evaluation by at least two independent expert reviewers in the relevant field.
  • Publication is contingent upon approval by both reviewers and final endorsement by the journal’s editorial board.
  • The typical review period (from submission to final decision) is approximately three months.

Peer Review Process

The Journal of Economic Essays employs a double-blind peer review system to ensure impartiality and scholarly rigor. The review process is structured as follows:

  1. Initial Editorial Screening: The editor-in-chief conducts a preliminary assessment to determine the manuscript’s suitability for peer review.
  2. Expert Review: Manuscripts that pass initial screening are sent to two qualified reviewers specializing in the subject area.
    • Authors may suggest two potential reviewers at submission, though the editor-in-chief, in consultation with the associate editor, retains final authority in reviewer selection.
    • Reviewer identities remain strictly confidential throughout the process.
  3. Decision Criteria:
    • Consensus Approval: If both reviewers recommend acceptance, the manuscript proceeds to publication.
    • Divergent Evaluations: In cases where reviewers’ assessments conflict (e.g., one approves and one rejects), the author will be invited to submit revisions, and a third reviewer will adjudicate.
  4. Reviewer Verdicts:
    • Acceptance without revisions (rare).
    • Acceptance with minor revisions (addressing clarifications or minor corrections).
    • Acceptance with major revisions (requiring substantive modifications; resubmission will undergo re-evaluation).
    • Rejection (if the manuscript fails to meet scholarly standards).

Author Appeals

Should an author contest the reviewers’ feedback, they may submit a formal rebuttal titled "Response to Reviewers" via the journal’s submission system. This document must provide a well-reasoned counter-argument supported by evidence. The editorial board, in consultation with reviewers, will evaluate the appeal and notify the author of the final decision.
